Katelynn DiFiore Makes Career-High 13 Saves in Loss at No. 9 Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Stevenson field hockey freshman Katelynn DiFiore (Salisbury/James M. Bennett) made a career-high 13 saves, all in the second half, but No. 9 Lynchburg scored five first-half goals en route to an 8-0 victory Saturday at Shellenberger Field.

The game marked the first of three in 11 days for the Mustangs (2-4) against teams ranked in the top 10 of the Kookaburra/NFCHA Division III Poll. Stevenson will take on No. 10 Rowan next Saturday, September 24 and No. 2 Salisbury on Wednesday, September 28.

Katie Kline and Kelli Williams paved the way for Lynchburg (5-1) who had six different goal scorers. The duo combined for eight points as both had two goals. Kristina Morris added four points on one goal and two assists.

Kline scored just 5:20 into the game on an unassisted goal which was the first of four in a span of 8:39.

The Hornets outshot Stevenson 47-4, including 23-0 in the first half. Junior Kelsi Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) registered nine first-half saves.

Stevenson wraps-up its four-game road trip on Sunday when it travels to Roanoke for a contest at 12:00 p.m. The Mustangs beat the Maroons 3-2 in overtime at Kerr Stadium a year ago after Leigh Willing (Princess Anne/Holly Grove Christian) scored the game-winning goal just four minutes into the extra period.
