Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Senior goalkeeper Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) recorded his first career point while making one save and extending his scoreless streak to 225 minutes Monday as the Stevenson men's soccer team defeated Penn State Brandywine Monday, 4-1 in the team's home opener and first-ever game at Mustang Stadium.
The win was the third-straight for the Mustangs (4-2) who have now won four consecutive at home while extending their home unbeaten streak to 11.
Steveson took to the offensive almost immediately, dominating the midfield and creating chances. The pressure paid off in the 23rd minute when sophomore Marcus Green (Rosedale/Overlea) gained the endline before cutting the ball back to the far post where unmarked junior Ryan Pierce (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) calmly finished to give the team a 1-0 advantage.
The Mustangs outshot the Nittany Lions 15-2 in the first half and 24-6 for the game.
After a Penn State Brandywine (0-2-1) foul at midfield, Flannelly lofted the ball behind the defense where freshman Yianni Sarioglou (Perry Hall/Calvert Hall) gathered it and slotted it home from four yards out in the 43th minute.
Just 22 seconds later, Sarioglou became the provider as he squared the ball in from the left side to senior Ryan Brost (Pennington, N.J./Hopewell Valley) who extended the Mustangs' lead to 3-0 at the half.
The Nittany Lions got on the board in the 69th minute with a long range effort from Jim Kallarakal before Stevenson senior Matthew Liska (Perry Hall/Archbishop Curley) scored from close range just five minutes from time, finishing a cross from Antwan Akinbinu (Bowie/Bowie) to push the margin back to three.
Four different players picked up their first points of the season for the Mustangs, including Pierce, Brost and Liska who netted their first goals of the season. Akinbinu also earned his first point.
Stevenson hits the road again on Wednesday, traveling to Shenandoah for a 7:00 p.m., contest. Last season, the Mustangs beat the Hornets in overtime, 2-1 on a goal from current assistant coach John Adamo.
