Box Score 3 OWINGS MILLS, Md. – The Stevenson women's volleyball team lost its first match of the season in the final of the first ever Stevenson Invitational after FDU-Florham won in five sets, 24-26, 25-21, 24-26, 25-18, 15-11.
The Mustangs (8-1) dropped their first sets of the young season after sweeping their previous eight opponents including Penn State Harrisburg and Mt. Saint Vincent who they defeated in the earlier rounds of the tournament.
Sophomore Christine Isenberg (Taneytown/Francis Scott Key) registered her third double double of the season totaling team highs 21 kills and 17 digs. She leads the team in kills this season.
Also recording a double double was senior Alexa Carney (Towson/Towson) who finished with 14 kills and 14 digs.
After trailing by a set twice, the Devils (7-3) led by Momi Mariani who had 14 kills and 22 digs and Andrea Peters who had 21 kills, overcame two tight set losses to win their fourth straight match and take home the Stevenson Invitational. Peters was name the tournament MVP.
Sophomore Jessica Gieselman (Westminster/Winters Mill) recorded a season high 54 assists to go along with her five kills and 14 digs.
Isenberg and Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) were named to the All-Tournament team. Perillo had 13 digs.
Stevenson fifth-year head coach Dave Trumbo has 99 career victories, leaving him just one shy of 100 for his career.
Stevenson opens its last season in the CAC when they travel to face Marymount (Va.) on Wednesday, September 14 starting at 7:00 p.m.
