OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Despite not having a single player in double figures, the Stevenson women's basketball gave the CAC's first place team all it could handle before a 15-5 run by Mary Washington at the start of the second half helped the Eagles escape with a 55-36 victory Wednesday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.

Junior Daniela Poss (Brookeville/Good Counsel) had nine points for the Mustangs (4-20, 2-13 CAC) who trailed by just four with 3:23 remaining in the first half.

However, Mary Washington (19-5, 14-1 CAC) scored the final four points of the first half to lead by eight at the half and opened the second on an 11-4 run to push its advantage to 14 with just under 16 minutes remaining, 34-20.

Senior Kristen Steiner (Forest Hill/Fallston) contributed seven points and six rebounds while Poss also added six boards. Senior JaQuelia Conley (Columbia/Montrose Christian) added eight points.

Stevenson committed a season-low 10 turnovers, but shot just 20.8 percent from the floor and was outrebounded, 44-28.

The Eagles jumped out to a six-point lead in the game's first 3:30 before Steiner knocked down a pair of foul shots and a layup by Conley created the game's only tie at 10-10,  game's only tie.

Mary Washington had 17 turnovers, but never trailed in the game. The duo of Jenna McRae and Katie Wimmer combined 36 of the Eagles' 55 points as each had 18 points. McRae also had a game-high eight rebounds while Wimmer added six.

Stevenson will close out the 2010-11 season at home on Saturday as it hosts Marymount (Va.)at 2:00 p.m. The team will be holding its annual Pink Zone event and will honor its three seniors in a pre-game ceremony.
