Conley Leads Mustangs to 50-30 Victory Over Trinity (D.C.) at Home

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Stevenson women's basketball senior JaQuelia Conley (Columbia/Montrose Christian) totaled a game-high 18 points and the Mustangs built a 26-9 halftime lead en route to a 50-30 victory over Trinity (D.C.) in a non-conference contest Saturday at Owings Mills Gymnasium.

Stevenson (4-19) held the Tigers scoreless for the game's first eight minutes while it built a 14-0 lead. Trinity missed its first 11 shots before Stefonie Kelly finally put the Tigers on the board with two free throws with 11:49 remaining.

Christa Burgess scored the first basket from the floor for Trinity on a lay-up with 11:02 left and the Tigers trailed by 10 before a 7-0 run by the Mustangs pushed the advantage to 18 points with 44 seconds to play.

Stevenson led by 17 at the half after limiting Trinity to just 7.4 percent shooting from the field as the Tigers made only 2-of-27 attempts.

After Trinity's Danielle Owens scored the first basket of the second half, a three-point play by Conley sparked an eight-point run for the Mustangs who pushed the lead to 23 points, 36-13 with 14:49 remaining.

Stevenson led by as many as 25 following a three-pointer by Conley with 6:27 left and the Mustangs shot 53.3 percent from the floor in the half, going 8-for-15.

The one negative in Stevenson's largest win since a 59-29 victory over Hood at home on Jan. 21, 2009, was that it turned the ball over 37 times, one shy of its season-high. The Tigers scored 23 of its 30 points off Mustang turnovers.

Senior Kristen Steiner (Forest Hill/Fallston) had six points and 12 rebounds, moving her into fourth on the school's single season rebounds list with 236. She also moved into fourth in career assists with 162.

Freshman Alissa Chambliss (Hanover/Meade) and junior Daniela Poss (Brookeville/Good Counsel) both added seven points for the Mustangs.

LaShawna Ervin led the Tigers with nine points and three rebounds while Owens added seven points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Thamar Polynice had eight points.

Stevenson continues its three-game homestand to conclude the season on Wednesday when its hosts Mary Washington in a CAC contest beginning at 6:00 p.m.
