Jumper at the Buzzer Caps Salisbury Rally in 53-51 Win Over Stevenson

SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury's Mike Atkins' hit a jumper at the buzzer to cap a 20-5 run for the Sea Gulls as they rallied from a 13-point second half deficit en route to a 53-51 victory over the Stevenson men's basketball team Saturday at the Maggs Physical Activities Center.

The Mustangs (2-6, 0-3 CAC) held its largest lead of the game at 13 points, 46-33 with 9:49 remaining in the second half following a three-pointer by freshman Robby Jenkins (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill).

Stevenson led by 11 at 51-40 on a three-pointer by junior Brett Burrier (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) with 7:28 to play.

However, that would be the last points of the game for the Mustangs as Salisbury closed the game on a 13-0 run led by six points from Mike Maczko and five from Atkins. Stevenson was 0-for-7 from the floor during that time while totaling six turnovers.

Holding a two-point lead with 54 seconds left, the Mustangs had a chance to extend the lead, but missed two free throws before Maczko tied it on a jumper with 29 seconds remaining.

Stevenson would get two more opportunities in the final seven seconds, but two missed lay-ups led to an offensive rebound for the Sea Gulls and the eventual game-winner for Atkins.

Burrier finished with 14 points to lead the Mustangs who were 6-of-21 from the floor in the second half for 28.6 percent. Salisbury also shot 28.6 percent in the first half in falling behind by eight at the half, 35-23.

Sophomore Stefon McCray (Milton, Fla./Archbishop Curley) had nine points, a game-high eight rebounds and three assists. Jenkins had a career-high eight points and four rebounds.

Maczko totaled 23 points, six rebounds and five assists to lead Salisbury who won for the fourth time in five home games at home this season, including second versus Stevenson. Atkins had 12 points and six rebounds.

Stevenson has nine days before returning to action in Daytona Beach, Florida on Monday, December 19 in the Daytona Beach Shootout against Westfield State.
