Box Score HARRISONBURG, Va. - Eastern Mennonite closed the first half on a 22-8 run over the final 9:28 while shooting 50 percent from the floor and scoring 20 points off of 18 turnovers as the Royals posted an 83-57 victory over the Stevenson women's basketball team Friday at the EMU Tip-Off Classic at Yoder Arena.
The Mustangs (1-1) were led by senior Daniela Poss (Brookeville/Counsel) who had 10 points, four rebounds and three steals. Freshman Pee-Jay Gunn (Cheltenham/Frederick Douglas) had eight points and four assists.
The Royals (1-0), who were picked to finish fourth in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference and went 9-2 at home a year ago, totaled 36 points off turnovers, 54 points in the paint, 40 fast break points and 44 bench points. They also made 18-of-27 free throws compared to 7-of-10 for Stevenson and made nearly 50 percent of their shots for the game.
Eastern Mennonite held a slim 19-17 advantage with 9:28 remaining in the first half, but stretched its lead to 16 at halftime after the Mustangs finished the half by committing 11 turnovers and shooting just 4-of-11 from the floor.
The trio of Raiven Patterson, Alisa Brown and Kala Yoders combined for 26 first-half points, outscoring Stevenson by one, 26-25. They finished the game with 38 points, led by a game-high 14 from Yoders. Patterson and Brown each had 12 points.
The Mustangs wrap-up play in the EMU Tip-Off Classic on Saturday against Mary Baldwin beginning at 2:00 p.m.
