Box Score 2 TOWSON, Md. – The Stevenson women's volleyball team captured first place at the Goucher Invitational after picking up victories over Lancaster Bible and future MAC rival FDU-Florham Saturday at Decker Sports and Recreation Center Arena.
The Mustangs (21-2) extended their winning streak to a season-high nine games, seven of which have come in straight sets, including three this weekend. The win over FDU-Florham also avenged one of their two losses after the Devils edged out a 24-26, 25-21, 24-26, 25-18, 15-11 victory to win the Stevenson Invitational on September 11.
Stevenson's 21 wins in its first 23 games is a new school record for best start to a season. It is also the second tournament title for the Mustangs this season after they won four-straight to win the Hampton Inn & Sleep Inn Invitational hosted by Eastern Mennonite.
Junior Avery Gabbard (Arnold/Broadneck) and sophomore Jessica Gieselman (Westminster/Winters Mill) were both named to the all-tournament team. Gabbard led the team with 44 kills while Gieselman totaled 16 kills, 18 digs, seven total blocks and 121 assists.
Gabbard and sophomore Christine Isenberg (Taneytown/Francis Scott Key) combined for 73 of the team's 155 kills this weekend to go along with 63 digs. Isenberg totaled 18 digs against FDU-Florham, three shy of her career-high.
Gabbard led the team in kills in each of its four games this weekend and had at least 10 kills in three.
Freshman Samantha Perillo (Wilmington, Del./Wilmington Friends) totaled 70 digs over the four games, including 24 versus FDU-Florham which was one short of her career-high. She has recorded at least 20 digs in seven games this season and four in the last seven.
