Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - York leading scorer Sandee Reich picked up two goals as the Spartans defeated the Stevenson field hockey team 4-2 on Friday night at Mustang Stadium.
The duo of Reich and Colleen O'Rourke combined for all four of York's goals, as they broke open a 2-2 tie midway through the first half.
The Mustangs (3-9, 1-3 CAC) scored first on a goal by senior Brittany Martin (Hampstead/Hereford), but York tied the game just 25 seconds later and never trailed the rest of the way.
The Spartans (7-6, 1-3 CAC) scored back-to-back goals off penalty corners as Kailey Brewer found O'Rourke both times for what is now her team leading seventh assist.
Stevenson had a chance to tie the game 1:19 later on a redirect by senior Ashley Beam (Reisterstown/North Carroll) but it went just wide.
Junior Kaitlyn May (Arnold/Archbishop Spalding) was able to put away a loose ball in a scramble in front of the goal to knot the score with the fourth goal in the first 12:21 of the game, while setting a new career high with her seventh goal of the season.
With 17:18 remaining in the half, Rachel Guzman (Gwynn Oak/Mounnt de Sales) came up with a defensive save but the Spartans were awarded a penalty stroke that Reich put away to give York a 3-2 lead.
Just before the end of the first half, sophomore Sarah Rixham (Abingdon/Patterson Mills) made a sliding save in front of the goal to prevent the ball from trickling in to keep the deficit at one going into halftime.
Reich scored the lone second half goal on a cross in front of the goal from Ashton Burk. Reich is tied for second in the CAC with 12 goals.
Stevenson held an 11-7 penalty corner advantage while facing an 11-8 shot deficit.
Freshman Katelynn DiFiore (Salisbury/James M. Bennett) recorded one save in the second half.
York's Alanna Curtis recorded three saves.
The Mustangs retun to action when they face the first of three consecutive road games on Sunday, October 9 at Manhatanville beginning at 1 p.m.
