Box Score TOWSON, Md. – Stevenson field hockey sophomore Alyssa Russell (Towson/Loch Raven) tallied her first career point on an assist as the Mustangs posted a 3-1 victory over local rival Goucher Wednesday afternoon at Beldon Field.
The Mustangs (4-10) picked up their first road victory this season having beaten their local rival for the sixth consecutive year.
Junior Kaitlyn May (Arnold/Archbishop Spalding) opened the scoring just 3:28 into the game when she finished in front of the goal on an assist from senior Ashley Beam (Resiterstown/North Carroll).
Stevenson has scored first in all but one of its wins this season.
Freshman Ariella Hopp (Jarrettsville/Institute of Notre Dame) and sophomore Leigh Willing (Princess Anne/Holly Grove Christian) both tallied an assist on May's second goal coming off a penalty corner, doubling Stevenson's lead.
The Mustangs would strike once more in the first half when Beam deflected in a shot high past the goalie on an assist by Russell giving them a 3-0 halftime lead.
The Gophers (4-8) would score the lone second half goal by Rachel Ward after she fought off a Stevenson defender and hit it off the goalie into the back of the net.
Junior Kelsi Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundell) recorded six saves while her counterpart Micki Manheimer finished with seven.
Stevenson outshot Goucher 16-11 including a 7-0 in the first half and held a 8-5 advantage in penalty corners.
The Mustangs finish their three-game road trip when they face CAC opponent Wesley on Sunday, October 16 beginning at 1:00 p.m.
