MARY'S CITY, Md. - Stevenson field hockey freshman Erin Fischer (Pasadena/Northeast) tallied her first career point with an assist on the game-tying goal less than five minutes into the second half, but St. Mary's (Md.) scored the game-winner with just over six minutes remaining en route to a 2-1 victory Saturday at Seahawk Stadium.
Stevenson (3-8, 1-2 CAC) has lost three-straight and is winless in six road games this season.
The Seahawks (4-5, 2-1 CAC) took control early, recording the game's first five shots with the last giving them a 1-0 lead after Ali McIntosh scored on a rebound off a penalty corner midway through the first half.
The Mustangs closed with the final five shots of the first half, but could not find the equalizer until freshman Ariella Hopp (Jarrettsville/Institute of Notre Dame) scored her fourth goal of the season off a penalty corner to tie the game at 1-1. She has accounted for three of the team's eight goals over the last four games.
In a back-and-forth game in which both teams totaled 10 shots and St. Mary's (Md.) held a slim 10-7 margin in penalty corners, the Seahawks were awarded a penalty stroke with just over six minutes remaining. Lauriann Parker converted the attempt for her team-leading seventh goal of the season and her second game-winner as St. Mary's (Md.) posted its third win in the last five games.
Junior Kelsi Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) finished with five saves for Stevenson while Anastasia Wash had six for the Seahawks in earning her first win of the season.
Stevenson returns home to face York (Pa.) next Friday, October 7 beginning at 7:00 p.m.
