OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson women's
volleyball senior Alex Mercer
(Eldersburg/Liberty) totaled a game-high 11 kills in her
first start of the season as the Mustangs won their third-straight
with a 25-7, 25-11, 25-10 victory over local rival McDaniel
Wednesday night in front of 806 fans at Owings Mills Gymnasium.
Stevenson (5-1) totaled 39 kills compared to just eight for
McDaniel who dropped its first road game of the season.
Mercer also added two block solos, one block assist and two
digs. Freshman Jessica Gieselman (Westminster/Winters
Mill), who was named CAC Player of the Week on Monday, had
another spectacular performance, totaling four kills, 25 assists,
six service aces and 10 digs.
The Mustangs took control of the game early, totaling 15 kills
and a .387 hitting percentage in set one en route to an 18-point
victory. Meanwhile, McDaniel committed four errors without a kill
in 18 attempts for a minus-.222 hitting percentage.
Mercer totaled five of her 11 kills in the first set while
freshman Stacey Rex
(Finksburg/Westminster) added four of her seven. Sophomore
Avery
Gabbard (Arnold/Broadneck) also finished with seven
kills to go along with a team-high 12 digs.
Junior Brooke Gilley
(Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) added a season-high four kills
and sophomore Emilee Ceroy
(Davidsonville/South River) had a season-high three
kills.
Kristen Nuckles led the Green Terror (0-4) with three kills and
nine digs while Katie Ferguson added a game-high 15 digs.
Stevenson returns to action tomorrow night when it hosts
Washington (Md.) at 7:00 p.m.
