Lauren Ross notched a quintella, five goals, as the No. 13-ranked
Profs handed Stevenson an 8-0 defeat Saturday at Caves Athletics
Complex.
Saturday marked the fourth time in the last five games that the
Mustangs (4-6) have faced a team ranked in the top 15 of the
Kookaburra/NFHCA Division III Poll.
Ashley Adams scored what proved to be the game-winning goal just
1:23 into the contest on a strike from six yards before Julie
Cairone converted a penalty stroke to give the Profs (5-3) a 2-0
advantage with 21:37 remaining in the first half.
Three of Cairone's four goals this season have come on penalty
strokes where she is 3-for-4.
Ross then went on a barrage by scoring four consecutive goals
between the 23rd and 57th minutes to extend the lead to six.
Nicole Valianti picked up her sixth goal of the season with just
over two minutes remaining in the game after navigating around
three Mustang defenders before Ross capped off her Texas hat trick
with 1:24 led on a point blank shot from the left wing.
Senior Kara Zimmerman
(Odenton/Arundel) finished with eight, first half saves
before giving way to Kelsi Zimmerman
(Odenton/Arundel) who made one stop.
Senior Natalie DiPaolo
(Baltimore/Perry Hall) added two more defensive saves and
now has 29 for her career while sophomore Sarah Cronk
(Crownsville/Old Mill) had one.
Stevenson looks to snap its five-game losing streak when it
travels to Hood on Monday for a 4:30 p.m., CAC contest.
