DOVER, Del. - The Stevenson women's volleyball
team won its 10th-straight game and third consecutive on the road
as the Mustangs posted a 25-11, 23-25, 25-17, 25-11 road victory
over Wesley in a CAC contest Tuesday night at Wentworth Gymnasium
as they earned their first conference road win.
The Mustangs (12-1, 2-0 CAC) were led by sophomore Avery
Gabbard (Arnold/Broadneck) who totaled 15 kills, 11
digs and four service aces as she posted her second-straight double
double and third of the season.
Senior Alex Mercer
(Eldersburg/Liberty) added 10 kills and six total blocks,
including four block solos while junior Alexa Carney
(Towson/Towson) had six kills and a team-high 14 digs.
Stevenson cruised to victory in the first set before dropping
just their fifth set out of 42 this season in the second. The
Wolverines (3-16, 0-2 CAC) led 23-19 in the second before holding
on for the two-point victory to even the game at 1-1.
In the third set, Wesley held service for a quick 2-0 lead, but
did not win another point on service the rest of the set in losing
by eight. In the decisive fourth, Stevenson jumped out to a 12-4
lead to put the match away.
Freshman Jessica
Gieselman (Westminster/Winters Mill) totaled 39
assists and nine digs.
As a team, the Mustangs totaled 57 digs with junior Amy Rudolph
(North East/Rising Sun) adding a season-high 13, one more
than her previous high set versus Marymount (Va.) last
Thursday.
Junior Jen Glock
(Westminster/Westminster) had three kills and a .750
hitting percentage with three block assists while junior Jamie Krens
(Owings Mills/Franklin) had three service aces.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday when it hosts a
tri-match with Wilkes and Albright beginning at 2:00 p.m., inside
Owings Mills Gymnasium.
