FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - In her 10th game sine
joining the team in January, Stevenson women's basketball freshman
guard Sam Murray (Reisterstown/St. Paul's) scored
a career-high 10 points in the Mustangs' 81-30 CAC road loss to
Mary Washington Wednesday night at Goolrick Gymnasium.
The 41-point loss was the largest margin of defeat for Stevenson
(5-14, 3-9 CAC) since a 53-point setback at Catholic,
86-33 back on Nov. 29, 2004. The team trailed 39-12 at
halftime and was outscored 42-18 in the second half.
Murray was the lone player in double figures for the Mustangs
who were just 9-of-41 from the floor and committed 27
turnovers. The team was also outrebounded, 44-25.
The Eagles (16-3, 11-0 CAC) scored 29 points off turnovers and
22 second-chance points off 15 offensive rebounds while maintaining
their half-game lead over No. 7 Marymount (Va.) for first place in
the CAC standings.
Wednesday night was a far different outcome than the two teams'
previous matchup back on January 6 when Stevenson held Mary
Washington to its second-lowest point total of the season and just
30.2 percent shooting from the floor in a 50-27 Eagle victory.
Junior forward Kristen Steiner
(Fallston/Fallston) totaled eight points, four
rebounds and three blocks, but also had seven turnovers. She was
one of six players who had at least two while 10 of the 13 players
who played had at least one.
Murray scored nine of her 10 points from behind the arc where
she was 3-of-5 from three-point range. The rest of the team was
1-for-7.
Katie Wimmer led Mary Washington with a game-high 19 and was a
perfect 7-of-7 from the free throw line. She led three Eagles in
double figures as Lauren Kornacki had 13 and Jenna McRae added 11.
Stevenson is scheduled to continue its three-game road trip at
No. 7 Marymount (Va.) on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. However, potential
weather conditions may change that so please check
