Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Stevenson men's basketball freshman Stefon McCray (Baltimore/Archbishop Curley) totaled 10 points and seven rebounds, both team-highs, but the Mustangs could not overcome a poor-shooting first half as they dropped their fifth-straight, 79-50 against Catholic Saturday at the DuFour Center.
Stevenson (3-7) shot just 18.5 percent from the floor in the first half and were 1-of-10 from three-point range in falling behind by 21 at the half, 38-17.
The Cardinals used a 15-2 run to take an 11-point lead, 17-6 with 11:45 remaining in the first half before a 19-2 run pushed the advantage to 25 with 3:36 left.
The Mustangs scored 13 of the first 21 points to open the second half and cut the deficit to 16. Sophomore Andrew Bishop (Lothian/Southern) scored six of his seven points during the run, but that would be as close as Stevenson would get as Catholic outscored them 27-10 over the next 11:36 to take its largest lead of the game at 33 points.
Sophomore Brett Burrier (Westminster/Winters Mill) had eight points and four rebounds while senior Greg Woody (Baltimore/Mount St. Joseph) had seven points.
Sophomore Garrett Jones (New Windsor/South Carroll) totaled six points in seven minutes off the bench after scoring a career-high eight versus St. Mary's (Md.) on December 4.
Jason Banzhaf led the Cardinals (8-2) with 18 points and 12 rebounds while R.J. Dixon also added 18 points.
Stevenson returns to action on Monday at Texas-Dallas. Game time is at 9:00 p.m., Eastern time.
