WESTMINSTER, Md. - McDaniel's Sarah Meszler
scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season and eventual
game-winner with 19:14 remaining, just 56 seconds after Stevenson
scored to tie the game as the Green Terror snapped a four-game
losing streak with a 2-1 victory Thursday at Scott Bair
Stadium.
Meanwhile, the loss snapped a two-game win streak for the
Mustangs (6-7) who were limited to just two shots.
Neither team was able to score during uneventful first half as
McDaniel managed only two shots, one of which was saved by
Stevenson senior Kara Zimmerman
(Odenton/Arundel).
However, the Green Terror (3-6) got off to a quick start in the
second when Kaitlin Boerman scored on a pass from Katherine Jones
off a penalty corner just 3:21 into the half.
The lead held until Mustang freshman Shelby Ballew
(Annapolis/Broadneck) scored her third career goal and
first since netting two in the season opener at Notre Dame (Md.)
with 20:10 remaining off a feed from soophomore Kaitlyn May
(Arnold/Archbishop Spalding).
Meszler quickly answered for McDaniel as she capitalized on a
loose ball in front of the Stevenson net to put the Green Terror
back in front for good.
Both teams combined for just nine shots as McDaniel held a 7-2
margin to go along with a lopsided 17-7 advantage in penalty
corners, including an 11-5 edge in the second half.
Zimmerman finished with three saves for the Mustangs while
Stephanie Thomson needed to make just one in earning her third win
of the season.
Stevenson concludes the regular season with five of its final
six games at home beginning Sunday when it hosts Manhattanville at
Caves Athletics Complex at 2:00 p.m.
