WASHINGTON, D.C. - Stevenson women's volleyball junior Alexa Carney (Towson/Towson) totaled 29 digs Friday night, surpassing 1,000 for her career as the Mustangs won both games of a tri-match at Gallaudet with a 23-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-15 victory over Rowan and a 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 win over the host Bison at the Field House.
Stevenson (25-7) picked up its second win in the last five games against Rowan while improving its overall road record to 17-5 this season, including 9-2 in neutral site contests.
Carney has totaled a team-high 346 digs this year and is the second player to reach a personal milestone after senior Alex Mercer (Eldersburg/Liberty) reached 1,000 career kills on October 19 versus Mary Washington.
As a team, the Mustangs totaled 80 digs against the Profs (16-13) while adding 12.0 total blocks.
Carney led the way with a team-high 18 digs and was one of five players with 10 or more as freshman Jessica Gieselman (Westminster/Winters Mill) added 14 and sophomore Avery Gabbard (Arnold/Broadneck) and freshman Samantha Shetterly (Elkridge/Mount de Sales) each had 13.
Junior Amy Rudolph (North East/Rising Sun) had 10 digs to go along with a team-high 23 assists.
Gabbard had a team-high 17 kills while Gieselman added 12 kills, 22 assists, four service aces and four total blocks. Mercer had 10 kills and seven block assists. Carney also had seven kills and junior Brooke Gilley (Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) had three kills and five total blocks.
Mercer led the team with nine kills, six digs and seven total blocks versus Gallaudet (22-14). Gieselman added eight kills, 18 assists, 10 digs and four block assists while Gabbard totaled seven kills and eight digs.
Stevenson had 14.5 blocks against the Bison as freshman Kristin Steinnagel (Eldersburg/Liberty) had seven total blocks to go along with five kills.
Carney added 11 digs and Shetterly had a team-high 12. Rudolph had 10.
With the regular season complete, Stevenson travels to Salisbury for a rematch with the Sea Gulls in the first round of the CAC Volleyball Championship Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
