Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson field hockey junior Brittany Martin (Hampstead/North Carroll) totaled her sixth multi-point game of the season and scored her sixth goal as the Mustangs posted their sixth shutout of the season, defeating Goucher in their regular season and home finale Thursday night, 2-0 at Caves Athletics Complex.
With the win, Stevenson (9-10) moved within one game of the school record for wins in a season set by the 2008 team that finished 10-10.
Martin finished the game with three points on one goal an one assist and had a hand in both Mustang goals to break open a scoreless game in the second half.
After scoring the game-winner off a rebound with 15:19 remaining, Martin then found freshman Shelby Ballew (Annapolis/Broadneck) for her team-leading eighth assist of the season just 3:02 later as Ballew picked up her fourth goal on the year.
Senior Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) finished with 10 saves, two shy of her season-high, and earned her 30th career victory, further adding to her school record.
Zimmerman's counterpart, Micki Manheimer, had five saves for the Gophers (5-11).
Prior to the game, Stevenson honored its five seniors in Zimmerman, Jennifer Sauers (Baltimore/Perry Hall), Katelyn Manocheh (Timonium/Maryvale Prep), Christie Greer (Bel Air/Bel Air) and Natalie DiPaolo (Baltimore/Perry Hall) who have led the Mustangs to their most successful four-year period in school history, totaling 30 wins and three CAC Field Hockey Championship appearances.
After advancing to the semifinals in 2008, Stevenson will look for its second victory in the conference tournament and its school record 10th win when it travels to Fredericksburg, Virginia on Sunday, October for a rematch with Mary Washington.
The Eagles sneaked out a 2-1 overtime victory on October 20.
