LANCASTER, Pa. - Highlighted by a career-high
16 kills and a .571 hitting percentage from junior Kristen Lubeski
(Bishopville/Stephen Decatur), the Stevenson women's
volleyball team started a new winning streak with a 25-19, 25-21,
25-15 victory over Lancaster Bible and a 25-18, 25-10, 25-16 win
over New Jersey City Saturday.
The Mustangs (16-2) rebounded from Wednesday's loss at Frostburg
State with their 13th and 14th straight-set victories of the
season.
Lubeski led the way against New Jersey City with 16 of the
team's 40 kills while adding four digs. Prior to Saturday, she had
just 21 kills through 11 matches this season and her previous
career-high was nine set at Rowan on Oct. 17, 2009.
Junior Jen Glock
(Westminster/Westminster) added six kills against the
Gothic Knights (5-8), one shy of her season-high, as did senior
Alex
Mercer (Eldersburg/Liberty). Junior Brooke Gilley
(Bel Air/C. Milton Wright) tied her season-high with
five.
Sophomore Avery Gabbard
(Arnold/Broadneck) and freshman Samantha
Shetterly (Elkridge/Mount de Sales) each had a
team-high six digs while freshman Jessica
Gieselman (Westminster/Winters Mill) had 24 assists.
Junior Amy Rudolph (North
East/Rising Sun) finished with seven.
Against Lancaster Bible (7-11), Mercer had 10 kills and three
total blocks. With 16 kills today, she now has 934 for her
career.
Gieselman added eight kills, a team-high nine digs and 20
assists while junior Alexa Carney
(Towson/Towson) also had nine digs to go along with five
kills. Gabbard totaled nine kills and seven digs and Rudolph had
seven digs and 10 assists.
Five players had at least seven digs versus the Chargers as
Shetterly also had seven.
Stevenson continues its eight-game road trip with a key CAC
contest at York (Pa.) beginning at 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday. The
Spartans are currently half-a-game ahead of Stevenson in second
place in the conference standings while the Mustangs are
fourth.
