STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson women's basketball
junior guard JaQuelia Conley (Columbia/Montrose
Christian) scored a career-high 23 points, her third game
in the last five with a career-high, to help the Mustangs snap a
six-game losing streak with a 69-55 CAC victory over Hood Saturday
at Student Union Gymnasium.
The win also snapped a three-game skid for Stevenson (2-7, 1-2
CAC) at home and was its fourth in five meetings versus Hood since
joining the CAC prior to the 2007-08 season.
For Conley, she has averaged 16.4 points over her last five
games while posting career-highs of 17, 17 and 23 points. She
nearly eclipsed her career-high in the first half where she totaled
14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-3 from three-point
range.
Stevenson led 28-24 at halftime and Conley was the only starter
to score in the opening half as the other 14 points came off the
bench, led by six from freshman guard Vanessa Rice (Oxon
Hill/National Christian Academy).
The first half featured two ties and five lead changes, the last
of which came on a jumper by sophomore forward Katelyne
Briggs (Wilmington, Del./Padua Academy) with 5:40
remaining to give the Mustangs a 21-20 advantage.
Stevenson opened the second half on a 15-4 run to take a
15-point lead at 43-28 with 15:35 remaining before expanding its
margin to as many a 20.
Conley was the lone Mustang to score in double figures while
five players all finished with six points each, including freshman
forward Brittany Bryant (Frederick/Tuscarora) who
also added seven rebounds and two blocks.
Junior forward Kristen Steiner
(Fallston/Fallston) had five points, a game-high eight
rebounds, four blocks and five steals.
Dryanna Prater had 17 points to lead Hood (2-6, 0-3 CAC) while
Allyson Lethbridge and Jennifer Willison added 15 and 11,
respectively.
Stevenson Stevenson continues its five-game homestand on Sunday
when it hosts a non-conference contest with Carnegie Mellon at 2:00
p.m.
