YORK, Pa. - Nick Brady scored a game-high 19
points to lead four players in double figures for York (Pa.) who
improved its record at home to a perfect 10-0 this season with an
88-58 CAC victory over Stevenson Saturday night at Charles Wolf
Gymnasium.
The Spartans (13-3, 5-2 CAC), who are receiving votes in this
week's D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, held a commanding 46-19 lead at
halftime after holding the Mustangs to just 7-of-23 shooting from
the floor in the first half for 30.4 percent.
However, Stevenson rebounded in the second half, making 14-of-28
attempts from the field for 50.0 percent, including 6-of-13 from
three-point range. The Mustangs were outscored by just three,
42-39, but 22 of York's 42 points came in the paint where it held a
42-18 advantage for the game.
Brady led four starters who all scored in double figures,
including Kevin Whaley who added 16. Jeremy Keefer had 11 and Dylan
Hoffman finished with 10 while the Spartans' fifth starter, Paul
Kouvaris, had seven points and a game-high eight rebounds.
With the game tied at 8-8 less than four minutes into the game,
York finished the first half by outscoring Stevenson, 38-11. After
making their first three shots, the Mustangs missed 16 of their
final 20 attempts in falling behind by 27 at halftime.
The Spartans led by as many as 38 in the second half before
Stevenson finished the game with a 10-2 run over the last 1:37 to
cut the margin to 30.
Junior guard Broderick Hill (Bowie/Bishop
McNamara) led the Mustangs (1-14, 1-5 CAC) with nine
points while freshman guard Zach Cooke (Morgantown, W.
Va./Cushing Academy) had seven.
Playing in his hometown, junior guard Andy Shelly (York,
Pa./West York) added a career-high six rebounds. Freshman
forward Clifton Jones (Bowie/Archbishop Spaulding)
also pulled down six boards.
Stevenson faces a quick turnaround as it travels to Wesley for a
CAC contest Monday at 8:00 p.m.
