WESTMINSTER, Md. - Stevenson totaled 27 attack
errors and a minus-.082 hitting percentage as the Mustangs were
swept by McDaniel in straight sets Thursday night 25-21, 25-15,
2-16 at the Gill Center.
Stevenson (1-1) also had six service errors and four reception
errors in losing its first regular season game since Oct. 21, 2008.
The loss snapped a nine-game streak dating back to a 3-2 loss at
Goucher.
Junior Dani Katsampis (New Windsor/Francis Scott
Key) totaled a team-high six kills to go along with 10
digs while freshman Avery Gabbard
(Arnold/Broadneck) had four kills and a game-high 12 digs.
Three Mustangs had at least 10 digs as sophomore Alexa
Carney (Towson/Towson) added 11. She also had three
service aces.
Both teams struggled offensively as McDaniel (1-0) had 22 attack
errors and a mere 0.52 hitting percentage in its season opener. The
Green Terror also had four service errors and four reception
errors, but had 11 total blocks, including four from Sara Hanlon.
Taylor Herrgott led McDaniel with 10 kills while Hanlon added
five. Katie Ferguson contributed three kills and led the team with
nine digs.
Stevenson travels to Philadelphia Biblical on Saturday for the
Crimson Eagle Classic where it is the defending champion. The
Mustangs open against Farmingdale at 10:30 a.m., before taking on
Lancaster Bible at 12:30 p.m. The semifinals and championship will
take place at 2:30 p.m., and 4:30 p.m.
