FREDERICK, Md. - Stevenson field hockey junior
Katelyn Manocheh (Timonium/Maryvale Prep) totaled
her fourth career multi-goal game and second this season to lead
the Mustangs to a 2-1 victory over Hood in a CAC contest Tuesday
afternoon at Thomas Athletic Field.
The team's leading scorer, Manochech totaled her fourth and
fifth goals of the season, one in each half, as Stevenson (3-5, 1-2
CAC) picked up its first conference win of the season.
Manocheh netted the game's first goal just 3:36 in when she
scored off an assist from sophomore Brittany Martin
(Hampstead/Hereford) who totaled her first point of the
season after totaling three assists a year ago.
Neither team would score again until Manocheh's second with less
than 15 minutes remaining on a pass from senior Sarah Bauer
(Baltimore/Perry Hall).
Megan Cahill would get the Blazers (3-5, 0-3 CAC) on the
board with her first collegiate goal just seven minutes later to
cut the Mustang lead in half.
Despite being outshot 20-9, Stevenson would protect its lead
thanks to a strong defensive effort led by junior Kara
Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) who had 10 saves, two shy of
her career-high.
Hood had two penalty corners in the final seven minutes,
but both shot attempts were blocked in front by Mustang
defenders.
Stevenson returns to action on Saturday when it travels to No.
7-ranked Lebanon Valley. The Dutchmen are currently 7-1 heading
into Thursday's game at FDU-Florham.
