YORK, Pa. - Stevenson field hockey senior
Sarah Bauer (Baltimore/Perry Hall) gave the
Mustangs a 1-0 lead just 10 minutes in, but York (Pa.) scored three
unanswered goals, including the tying goal less than nine minutes
later, to take a 3-1 victory in a CAC contest Thursday at Kinsley
Field.
The win was the first for the Spartans (4-4, 2-1 CAC) in four
homes games this season and was their third in the last four after
starting the season 1-3.
Meanwhile, it was the second-straight loss for Stevenson (2-4,
0-2 CAC) and second in as many conference games this season.
York held a commanding 15-4 edge in shots and a 15-3 advantage
in penalty corners. However, the Mustangs were able to strike first
on Bauer's first goal of the season and the eighth of her career
10:22 into the contest despite the Spartans totaling two corners
and two shots to start.
Junior Katelyn Manocheh (Timonium/Maryvale
Prep) picked up her team-leading third assist on the play
and now leads the team with seven points through six games.
York's Katie Dawkins scored the first of her two goals to tie
the game at 1-1 only 8:50 later off an assist from Allison Rousch
on a breakaway.
The game would remain tied until Dawkins netted her second of
the game and seventh this season 10 minutes into the second half
off the Spartans' 13th penalty corner following a defensive save by
Stevenson junior Ashley Beam (Reisterstown/John
Carroll).
Casey Lawrence, who picked up an assist on Dawkins' second goal,
would add an insurance goal three minutes later to cap the scoring.
Mustang sophomore Kara Zimmerman
(Odenton/Arundel) finished with four saves while junior
Natalie DiPaolo (Baltimore/Perry Hall) added two
defensive saves.
Claire Rekitzke needed just two saves to earn her
second win for the Spartans.
Stevenson looks for its first CAC win this season on Saturday
when it hosts Mary Washington beginning at noon.
