STEVENSON, Md. - Led by 33 kills and 12 service
aces, including seven and three from freshman Avery Gabbard
(Arnold/Broadneck), Stevenson swept Wesley in the CAC
opener for both teams, downing the Wolverines 25-21, 25-18, 25-19
Wednesday night at Student Union Gymnasium.
The win was the second in four home games this season for the
Mustangs (6-4, 1-0 CAC) and their 21st out of the last 25 at
Student Union Gymnasium. It was also the team's fourth win in the
last five conference matches at home.
Gabbard also added a team-high seven digs. For the fifth time in
the last six matches, junior Alex Mercer
(Eldersburg/Liberty) led the team in kills, adding 11 more
to her team-leading 76 this season. She is two ahead of Gabbard and
junior Dani Katsampis (New Windsor/Francis Scott
Key) who also had seven against the Wolverines.
Sophomore Jen Glock (Westminster/Westminster)
contributed five kills, four service aces and two block solos as
the quartet of Mercer, Gabbard, Katsampis and Glock totaled 30 of
the team's 33 kills.
Sophomore Amy Rudolph (North East/Rising Sun)
totaled 22 assists for the Mustangs who trailed just once the
entire match.
Stevenson will look for its first win in three CAC matches
against York (Pa.) on Saturday when it welcomes the Spartans to
Student Union Gymnasium as part of a tri-match with the College of
Southern Maryland. The Mustangs will face York at noon before
taking on the Hawks at 4:00 p.m.
