OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Samantha Locke had two goals and an assist while Julia Puzak had one goal and one assist to lead St. Mary's (Md.) to a 4-0 victory over Stevenson in the CAC and season opener for both teams Tuesday night at Caves Athletics Complex.

The victory was the eighth-straight for the Seahawks (1-0, 1-0 CAC) against the Mustangs since a 2-1 loss on Sept. 1, 2001.

Junior Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel), an All-NFHCA South Region and CAC First Team selection a year ago, made 12 saves in goal to lead Stevenson who suffered just its second loss in its last five games at home.

After back-to-back corners, Locke would score her first goal just 11:15 into the game when she redirected a pass from Puzak in front to give St. Mary's a 1-0 lead.

Despite being outshot 8-0 in the first half and surrendering six corners, the Mustangs would hold the Seahawks scoreless for the next 17:06 before Ali McIntosh scored on a cross from Lauriann Parker with just under six minutes remaining in the first half.

Stevenson came out strong in the second half, forcing two shots and its first penalty corner in a 15-second span at the 11-minute mark.

However, Emma Lauhoff would come up with her only required save of the game with under 24 minutes left before Puzak scored her first goal of the year off an assist from Locke on a penalty corner with less than 15 minutes to play.

Locke then picked up her second goal and fifth point of the night when she scored unassisted on a loose ball in front with 6:01 remaining.

Lauhoff played all 70 minutes in goal for St. Mary's to earn her third career shutout. Meanwhile, Mustang sophomore Megan Sadowski (Fallston/Fallston) picked up her first career save in her third career, totaling 7:16 in net.

Stevenson continues its five-game homestand to open the 2009 season on Saturday when it hosts Delaware Valley in its annual Black Eyed Susan Tournament.
