EMMITTSBURG, Md. - Stevenson University women's
basketball senior guard Tara Galvin (Lititz, Pa./Manheim
Township) scored a game-high 16 points as the Mustangs
earned their second win in the last four with a 65-52 victory
Wednesday night over Hood at Knott Arena on the campus of Mount St.
Mary's.
The win was the second in the last four games for Stevenson
(6-18, 4-11 CAC) who snapped a four-game road losing streak,
picking up its first victory since a 64-41 victory at Gallaudet on
January 10.
Galvin totaled 14 of her 16 points in the first half where she
had four three-pointers to raise her season total to 54.
The opening half featured seven ties and 14 lead changes before
the Mustangs finished the final 2:26 with a 7-1 run to take a 39-33
halftime lead.
Stevenson stretched its advantage to as many as 16 in
the second, and after Galvin's only basket of the half with 15:09
remaining, the team never let it slip below 10.
Sophomore forward Kristen Steiner (Forest
Hill/Fallston) just missed her sixth career double
double and second this season after finishing with eight points and
a game-high 10 rebounds.
Freshman Amanda Craig (Wilmington, Del./St.
Elizabeth) also had a game-high 10 rebounds to go along
with five points and four steals as the Mustangs outrebounded the
Blazers, 53-34. Stevenson limited Hood to just four offensive
rebounds and scored 13 second chance points.
Allyson Lethbridge scored a game-high 20 points to lead the
Blazers (4-19, 2-12 CAC) who were limited to only 19
second half points.
Stevenson concludes its 2008-09 season on Saturday when it
travels to Mary Washington. Game time is at 4:00 p.m., following
the men's game.
