TOWSON, Md. - The Stevenson men's basketball team tied a Pride of Maryland Championship record with nine blocks, but Adam Naymick totaled 17 points and 12 rebounds, both game-highs, to lead Washington (Md.) to an 83-62 victory over the Mustangs Saturday at Goucher's Decker Sports and Recreation Center.

Naymick, who totaled his first career double double in just 16 minutes, was one of four players in double figures for the Shoremen (1-1). Alan Kines and Sal Schittino each had 12 while Kevin Breslin had 11.

Junior Broderick Hill (Bowie/Bishop McNamara) led the Mustangs (0-3) with a season-high 11 points, five short of his career-high, while adding four rebounds and three assists. Sophomore Jason Scroggins (Baltimore/Boys' Latin) added 10 off the bench.

A 14-0 run by Washington gave the Shoremen a 13-point advantage at 18-5 in the opening half as Stevenson was held scoreless for 6:56 until freshman Zack Cooke (Morgantown, WV/Cushing Academy) hit two free throws with 11:16 to play.

The Mustangs rallied to cut the deficit to four at 27-23 with 3:53 remaining before Breslin scored five points in the final 46 seconds to give Washington a 36-30 halftime lead.

Kines totaled 12 points and six rebounds in the first half for the Shoremen while Hill had nine points, three rebounds and three assists.

Washington opened the second half with a 16-6 run to expand its lead to 16 at 52-36 with 13:53 remaining behind eight points from Naymick and six from Schittino. Schittino totaled all 12 of his points in the second half where he was 4-of-5 from three-point range after going 0-for-10 and 0-for-4 from behind the arc in the first half.

The Shoremen led by as many as 27 in the second half en route to their fifth win in the tournament's five-year history.

Stevenson tied the championship record for blocks in a game with nine, set by Salisbury in 2006 in an 84-83 overtime victory versus Stevenson. Senior Matt Leddy (Great Mills/Great Mills) and sophomore Keith Holtman (Baltimore/Eastern) each had three for the Mustangs.

Washington will play the winner between McDaniel and Goucher in the fifth place game on Sunday while Stevenson will play the loser in the seventh-place game at noon.

The Mustangs defeated Goucher in the seventh-place game last year, 62-58 at home.
