OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Stevenson field hockey
junior Katelyn Manocheh (Timonium/Maryvale Prep)
scored with just over 10 minutes remaining to force overtime, but
Kati Eggert's sixth goal of the season with less than five
minutes remaining in the extra
period gave Drew a 3-2 victory Sunday at Caves
Athletics Complex.
The loss was the third in five one-goal games for the Mustangs
(3-7) this season and the second in as many overtime games.
Stevenson took a 1-0 lead just over seven minutes in when junior
Jennifer Sauers (Baltimore/Perry Hall) scored her
third of the season off a rebound on a shot from
Manocheh inside the top of the circle.
The lead would hold until the 19th minute when Meghan Howlett
redirected a shot from Mary Esposito to tie the game at 1-1.
The Rangers (8-3) were denied a goal ahead at the end of the
first half after being denied on their ninth penalty corner on a
defensive save by junior Natalie DiPaolo (Baltimore/Perry
Hall) after time had expired.
The save was one of two for DiPaolo who leads the team with six
this season.
Drew would take its first lead when Elizabeth Law netted her
team-leading ninth of the season off a pass from Nicole DiBattista
with 13:43 remaining before Manocheh tied the game on an
assist from senior Sarah Bauer (Baltimore/Perry
Hall) three minutes later.
The Rangers outshot the Mustangs 6-0 in overtime and 16-4 in the
final two periods. They also held a 9-4 edge in penalty corners
over that span.
Junior Kara Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) made
her 10th start in goal for the Mustangs and totaled three first
half saves before sophomore Megan Sadowski
(Fallston/Fallston) totaled eight over the final 45:15,
tying her career-high.
Sadowski has totaled 21 of her 22 saves on the season over her
last three appearances while totaling a career-high with eight
versus Drew and Mary Washington on September 16.
