OWINGS MILLS, Md. - An own goal by Stevenson in
the game's 55th minute would prove to be the game's only scoring as
the Mustangs suffered their fifth loss of the season in games
decided by one goal as they fell to Rutgers-Camden at Caves
Athletics Complex on Saturday, 1-0.
Seven of Stevenson's 12 games this season have been decided by
just one goal where the team has a record of 2-5. The Mustangs
(5-7) also suffered their third-straight loss at home after having
won six-straight.
The Scarlet Raptors (5-5-2) held an 18-9 advantage in shots in a
game marred by 30 total fouls and four yellow cards.
After a scoreless first half, Rutgers-Camden scored on its first
opportunity of the second half less than 10 minutes in following a
foul on Stevenson in the left corner. On the restart, the ball was
played into the box where it got behind Mustang sophomore keeper
Ryan Flannelly (Middlesex, N.J./Middlesex) and was
kicked just inside the crossbar on a clearing attempt by the
defense.
Freshman Greg Coard (Timonium/Dulaney) entered
the game in goal in the 58th minute for Stevenson, finishing with a
career-high six saves in his most extensive action of the season.
Prior to seeing 32 minutes on Saturday, Coard had played just over
40 minutes in three games all season.
The win was the fourth on the road for Rutgers-Camden this
season who is now unbeaten in five out of six.
Stevenson begins a three-game road trip on Wednesday when the
team travels to Salisbury for a CAC contest beginning at 4:00
p.m. The Sea Gulls are currently ranked at No. 20 in the NSCAA
Division III Poll.
