WASHINGTON, D.C. - Stevenson men's soccer
freshman Ansger Otto (Willingboro,
N.J./Willinboro) and sophomore Kyle Baker
(Mitchellville/Bowie) each totaled four points to lead the
Mustangs to a 7-1 victory over Gallaudet Wednesday night in their
regular season finale at Hotchkiss Field.
The win was the fifth-straight for Stevenson (10-8, 5-3 CAC),
its longest winning streak since the team won a school record eight
consecutive during the 2005 season.
The Mustangs' 10 wins are also the most since they won 11 in
2006. The school record for a single-season is 15 set in 2005. It
is also the fifth time in the program's
15-year history that the team has posted double digit
wins.
Otto, who was named CAC Co-Player of the Week on Monday, posted
his second career multi-goal game with two goals and now has nine
this season, the most by a Mustang since Scott Andrzejewski has 12
in 2006.
Otto scored the game's first two goals in the first 20 minutes
off assists from senior Vinny Caltabiano (Lothian/Mount
Saint Joseph) and junior Tyler King
(Parkville/Calvert Hall), just 2:42 apart to give
Stevenson a 2-0 halftime lead.
King has now scored at least one point in four of the last five
games.
The Mustangs maintained their two-goal lead until the 57th
minute when sophomore Josh Danza (Pasadena/Archbishop
Spaulding) scored his third goal in as many games to
increase the lead to three.
Assisted by Baker, the goal was the first of six in a span of
only 27 minutes as Stevenson ran away with its fourth consecutive
road win.
Baker would add his fifth goal of the year in the 55th
minute off a pass from junior Nick Gault
(Baltimore/McDonogh) who picked up his first point of the
season.
King and junior Sean Scarselletta (Severna
Park/Severna Park) would add the team's fifth and sixth
goals just 51 seconds apart before Allara Le Toudjida netted his
first of the year to put the Bison on the board in the 77th minute.
Sophomore Chris Benson (Baltimore/Archbishop
Curley) would then cap the scoring in the 79th minute with
his first career goal in his first career game, scoring of a double
assist from Baker and freshman Chris Contino (Middlesex,
N.J./Middlesex).
Freshman Cory Spindler (Sykesville/Century)
made his first career start in goal, playing the first 22-plus
minutes to earn his first victory. He was one of four Mustangs who
saw action in goal.
Stevenson outshot Gallaudet (0-18, 0-8 CAC) 42-4, including 22-0
in the first half. It also held a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.
Poloko Qobose made 17 saves for the Bison who were playing in
their final CAC contest before joining the North Eastern Athletic
Conference next year. The team was also credited with three team
saves.
The Mustangs, the fourth-seed in the 2009 CAC Men's Soccer
Championship, will host fifth-seeded Wesley on Saturday at Caves
Athletics Complex beginning at 1:00 p.m.
