STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson women's volleyball
junior Alex Mercer (Eldersburg/Liberty) totaled a
game-high 15 kills, but the Mustangs could not overcome 40 total
errors as they lost their fifth-straight, dropping a CAC contest to
Salisbury Tuesday night at Student Union Gymnasium, 25-15, 25-19,
25-18.
Mercer had 15 of Stevenson's 27 kills, but the team committed 24
attack errors and had just a .027 hitting percentage in addition to
seven service errors and five reception errors.
Freshman Avery Gabbard (Arnold/Broadneck) added
six kills while posting a team-high 11 digs.
The Sea Gulls (22-4, 7-0 CAC) jumped out to a 17-4 lead in the
first set and went on a 9-2 run to break open an 11-11 tie into a
20-13 lead.
Stevenson managed to take is first lead in the third set at
11-10 after rallying from a 9-4 deficit. The Mustangs led by as
many as three at 14-11 before Salisbury closed the game with a 14-4
run to finish the sweep.
Sophomore Amy Rudolph (North East/Rising Sun)
totaled 22 assists to go along with seven digs. Sophomore
Alexa Carney (Towson/Towson) had eight digs.
Nicole Massarelli and Rachel Downes each had six kills to lead
Salisbury (22-4, 7-0 CAC). Downes also had a game-high 14 digs
while Gabby Long added 13.
Stevenson returns to action at home Wednesday night with a
non-conference contest against Notre Dame (Md.) in the team's final
regular season home game.
