TOWSON, Md. - Stevenson field hockey senior
Sarah Bauer (Baltimore/Perry Hall) scored on the
final attempt of the second round of strokeoffs to lift the
Mustangs to a 2-1 victory over local rival Goucher Wednesday in a
non-conference contest at Beldon Field.
Bauer scored two of Stevenson's four goals in the stroke-off and
her game-winner came after junior Katelyn Manocheh
(Timonium/Maryvale Prep) forced overtime with just 4:24
left in regulation and sophomore Brittany Martin
(Hampstead/Hereford) scored on the team's final
attempt in the first round.
Following Martin's goal in the strokeoff, junior Kara
Zimmerman (Odenton/Arundel) made a crucial save against
Allison Metzger to send the strokeoff to a second round.
The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Mustangs (4-9)
and a two-game road skid.
Katie Kramer broke a scoreless tie in the game's 55th minute
with her third goal of the season before Manocheh scored on an
assist from freshman Katelyn Bowers (Westminster/Francis
Scott Key) off a penalty corner to tie the game with less
than five minutes remaining.
It was the team-leading seventh goal of the season for Manocheh,
just two shy of her career-high set a year ago.
Stevenson earned its second road win of the year thanks in large
part to the play of Zimmerman who totaled 13 saves against the
Gophers who outshot the Mustangs 25-10, including 9-1 in the second
half. She totaled nine saves in the two overtime periods and is now
just eight shy of the school record for career saves with 363.
Stevenson hosts a non-conference contest with Frostburg State
Saturday on Senior Day beginning at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the game,
the team will honor its two seniors in Bauer and Raechel
Manly (Bel Air/Bel Air).
At halftime, the team will also recognize members of the
Stevenson faculty on Faculty Appreciation Day.
