STEVENSON, Md. - Freshman Avery Gabbard
(Arnold/Broadneck) totaled 22 kills and sophomore
Alexa Carney (Towson/Towson) had 30 digs to lead
the Stevenson women's volleyball team to back-to-back wins over
Lancaster Bible and New Jersey City Saturday at Student Union
Gymnasium.
After losing five-straight, the Mustangs (10-11) have responded
with three consecutive wins and are now just one game below .500
this season.
Stevenson's 25-20, 25-22, 25-14 win over Lancaster Bible was its
second against the Chargers (11-12) this season after a 3-0
victory at Philadelphia Bible on September 5. The Mustangs have now
won their last six against the Chargers.
Gabbard led the way with 13 kills while hitting .355 and adding
11 digs for her seventh double double this season. Junior
Dani Katsampis (New Windsor/Francis Scott Key) had
11 kills.
Defensively, Carney had 18 digs while freshmen Emilee
Ceroy (Davidsonville/South River) and Jenna Dean
(Frederick/Thomas Johnson) and sophomore Amy
Rudolph (North East/Rising Sun) each had seven.
Rudolph also had 39 assists.
Against the Gothic Knights (5-13), the offense was led by
freshman Kristen Lubeski (Bishopville/Stephen
Decatur) who totaled a career-high eight kills to go along
with four digs and three total blocks. Gabbard also nine more kills
to raise her team-leading total to 196.
Carney had 12 digs while Ceroy set a new career-high with 10.
Carney also added five kills. Rudolph finished with 30 assists,
eight digs and three kills.
Stevenson will look for its season-high four consecutive win on
Tuesday night when it hosts a non-conference match against local
rival Goucher beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Gophers handed the
Mustangs a 3-1 loss at home back on September 10.
