STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson University men's basketball junior guard Greg Woody (Baltimore/Mount Saint Joseph) scored a game-high 25 points and became the seventh player in program history to reach 1,000 career points as the Mustangs held off Hood, 79-75 Wednesday night at Student Union Gymnasium.

Woody scored 15 of his 25 points from the free throw line where he was 15-of-16 en route to his sixth 20-plus point game of the season. The CAC's third-leading scorer this season, he has totaled 128 points over his last six games for an average of 21.3 per game.

With the win, Stevenson (4-12, 3-4 CAC) moved into sole possession of fifth place in the CAC, a half-game ahead of York (Pa.).

Woody went 9-of-10 from the line in the second half, including 5-of-6 in the final 24 seconds after the Blazers (5-11, 2-5 CAC) pulled within one on back-to-back layups by Jeff Willison and Chris Carson.

Wednesday's game featured nine ties and 14 lead changes, but after a jumper by sophomore guard Greg Collins (Baltimore/Western Tech) and a layup by Woody with less than a minute remaining in the first half gave the Mustangs a two-point lead, they would never trail again.

Stevenson led by six in the second half, 48-42 with 15:38 to play before the Blazers rallied to tie the game for the ninth time at 61-61 with 7:43 left on a layup by Tim Abercrombie.

The Mustangs answered with a 9-2 run to take its biggest lead of the game at seven points, 70-63 with 2:57 remaining, but Hood countered with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to one with the final basket coming on a putback by Carson following a missed opportunity at a three-point play by Willison.

Senior center Kerry Dugan (Sparks/Hereford) finished the game with 15 points and six rebounds for Stevenson while senior guard Chaise Lancaster (Bowie/Northwestern) had 10 points and seven assists.

Meanwhile, freshman center Keith Holtman (Baltimore/Eastern) had six points, two rebounds and a career-high three blocks.

Willison totaled 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Blazers while Brady added a team-high 15 points and nine rebounds.

Stevenson faces Mary Washington at home on Saturday. Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
