STEVENSON, Md. - Stevenson University women's
volleyball sophomore Alex Mercer
(Eldersburg/Liberty) totaled 11 kills in 11 attempts while
not committing an error to lead the Mustangs to their
eighth-straight victory this season and 15th consecutive regular
season victory, 3-0 over Catholic Tuesday night at Student Union
Gymnasium.
As a team, Stevenson (8-0) totaled 40 kills with just seven
errors in 73 attempts for a .452 hitting percentage en route to a
25-11, 25-15, 25-12 victory.
A year ago, the Cardinals (3-7) handed the Mustangs a 3-0 loss
at the Penny Fall Classic held at Washington College (Md.) on Sept.
29, 2007.
Sophomore Dani Katsampis (New Windsor/Francis Scott
Key) and senior Alana Eller (Ellicott
City/Centennial) added six and five kills, respectively,
and posted a combined .409 percentage.
Eller also added 10 digs while junior Brittany
Umetin (Havre de Grace/Mt. Zion) totaled four kills, 29
assists and five digs.
Meanwhile, Catholic had 19 kills, but also committed 19 errors
to go along with 13 reception errors. Kilah Fox led Catholic with
five kills and was one of only four players to post a positive
hitting percentage.
Stevenson returns to action on Thursday when it travels to
Lancaster Bible at 7:00 p.m.
