Umetin, Eller Lead Mustangs to Crimson Eagle Classic Title

LANGHORNE, Pa. - The Stevenson University women's volleyball team extended its regular season winning streak to 14 while picking up its first tournament championship in over three years as the Mustangs swept all three of its matches in winning the Crimson Eagle Classic at Philadephia Biblical University.

Stevenson (7-0) has won 13 of its last 14 and has not lost a regular season game since Oct. 13, 2007 as it defeated Ramapo (25-22, 25-22, 26-24), Cedar Crest (25-21, 25-19, 25-19) and Philadelphia Biblical (25-19, 25-22, 25-17).

A year ago, the Mustangs went 6-1 over their first seven games en route to a 12-3 start.

Senior Alana Eller (Ellicott City/Centennial) and junior Brittany Umetin (Havre de Grace/Mt. Zion) were both named to the all-tournament team after Eller totaled 31 kills and 26 digs and Umetin had seven kills, 82 assists and 20 digs.

Eller had double doubles in two of Stevenson's three matches in the classic, posting 13 kills and 10 digs against Philadelphia Biblical after totaling a season-high 15 kills and 13 digs versus Ramapo.

Umetin's performance came against Ramapo where she had 32 assists and 10 digs while senior Julie Olson (Spofford, N.H./Keene) totaled a season-high 21 digs, the 10th time in her career she has had 20 or more.

In the Mustangs' second meeting against Cedar Crest this season, sophomore Dani Katsampis (New Windsor/Francis Scott Key) had a season-high nine kills to lead Stevenson offensively while freshman Alexa Carney (Towson/Towson) totaled seven kills and 12 kills, both career-highs. She also added four service aces.

In the classic title game, sophomore Alex Mercer (Eldersburg/Liberty) had six kills and six total blocks as she and Eller combined for 19 of Stevenson' 31 kills against the Crimson Eagles.

Umetin added five kills and six digs to go along with her 27 assists while Olson had 11 more digs.

The Mustangs return home to face Catholic Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m., looking to avenge last year's 3-0 loss at Washington College (Md.).
