Box Score OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Allie Weir scored
three goals as No. 18 Lynchburg snapped a three-game
losing streak with a 3-1 win over the Stevenson
University field hockey team Sunday afternoon at the Caves
Complex.
While the win ended a three-game skid for the Hornets (3-3), it
also snapped a two-game winnining streak for the Mustangs who
suffered their first loss in 11 days since a 1-0 loss at St. Mary's
(Md.) on September 3.
Weir, Lynchburg's leading scorer, totaled the ninth hat
trick of her career and second this season. Weir scored all four
goals for the Hornets' on Stevenson's home field this weekend as
she also had her team's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to No. 10
Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
After Weir's first two tallies gave Lynchburg a 2-0 halftime
lead, Stevenson (3-3) cut the lead in half when sophomore
Katelyn Manocheh (Timonium/Maryvale Prep) netted
her second goal of the season, unassisted, less than 10 minutes
into the second half.
Less than a minute later, the Mustangs had an opportunity to tie
the game, but a defensive save by the Hornets' Signey Milks, who
assisted on Weir's game-winning goal in the first half, turned away
a shot by Stevenson junior Sarah Bauer (Baltimore/Perry
Hall).
Weir would add her third goal with under 10 minutes remaining to
seal the victory for Lynchburg.
Mustang sophomore Kara Zimmerman
(Odenton/Arundel) faced 17 shots, making five saves, but
her three goals allowed were almost half of the seven she had
allowed in five games prior to Sunday. Through six games, she still
boasts a .706 saves percentage and a 1.76 goals against average.
Stevenson returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to
Washington (Md.) for a 7:00 p.m., contest with the Shorewomen.
