Box Score 3 STEVENSON, Md. - Senior Alana Eller
(Ellicott City/Centennial) totaled 30 kills to lead the
Stevenson University volleyball team to three-straight wins to open
the season as the Mustangs downed CAC foe Wesley, Washington (Md.)
and Cedar Crest Saturday at Stevenson Gymnasium.
The Mustangs (3-0) beat Wesley 25-8, 26-24 and 25-13 before
knocking off Washington (Md.) 25-16, 25-20, 18-24 and 25-21. They
then swept Cedar Crest 25-14, 25-9 and 25-10.
After totaling a school-record 21 wins a year ago, Stevenson has
now won 10 of its last 11 matches. The team also started 3-0
last season before falling to Haverford in the championship match
of the 2007 Haverford Invitational.
Eller began the day with 13 kills while hitting .600 versus
Wesley. She also added eight digs, four service aces and three
block assists. Sophomore Alex Mercer
(Eldersburg/Liberty) totaled five kills and four block
assists with junior Brittany Umetin (Havre de Grace/Mt.
Zion) contributing 31 assists, six digs, five service aces
and two block assists.
As a team, Stevenson totaled 16 service aces versus the Wolves
and 34 over the three matches. Senior Julie Olson
(Spofford, N.H./Keene) had four while also adding five
digs.
Eller paced the Mustangs with nine kills against Washington,
finishing just one shy of a double-double as she added a team-high
19 digs. She also had four more service aces and finished the day
with eight.
Freshman Jen Glock (Westminster/Westminster)
totaled seven kills in her second collegiate match and added four
block solos that were half of Stevenson's team total of eight.
Mercer had eight kills while freshman Paige Norvell
(Newark, Del./St. Elizabeth) had nine digs.
Against Cedar Crest, Eller posted eight kills and six digs while
senior Shelly May (Bel Air/Fallston) and junior
Danielle Herwig (Ellicott City/Howard) contributed
six apiece.
Umetin, who totaled 28 assists versus Washington, added 24 more
against Cedar Crest to finish with a three-match total of 83.
Freshman Amy Rudolph (Northeast/Rising Sun)
totaled the first 11 assists of her career to go along with
seven digs and four service aces.
Stevenson returns to action on Thursday against Notre Dame (Md.)
at home beginning at 7:00 p.m.
