Second Half Lifts Division II Bloomsburg Past Mustangs

Box score

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - Colleen Kegerreis scored 16 of her 19 points in the second half, matching Stevenson's team total, as the Division II Huskies outscored the Mustangs 47-16 en route to posting an 83-44 victory Monday night at Nelson Field House.

Leading by just one, 17-16 with 10:06 to play in the first half, the Huskies (5-2) would outscore Stevenson 42-14 to take a 29-point advantage with 11:23 left in the second half.

Kegerreis had 13 points over that span, including 10 of Bloomsburg's first 13 points to start the second half. Kelsey Gallagher added 11 points in the outburst.

Gallagher led four Huskies in double figures with a game-high 20 points to go along with seven assists and five rebounds while Kegerreis finished with 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for her fifth consecutive double double.

Kelly Joyce had 14 points and Lauren Healey added 10.

Playing less than 84 miles from her hometown, senior guard Tara Galvin (Lititz, Pa./Manheim Township) hit four of her first five shots and scored nine of Stevenson's first 12 points to lead the Mustangs to a 12-10 advantage less than six minutes into the game.

Galvin finished the game with a team-high 12 points while sophomore forward Denita Brown (Laurel/Montrose Christian) and freshman guard Joy Bettis (Laurel/Montrose Christian) each had seven. Sophomore forward Kristen Steiner (Forest Hill/Fallston) had a team-high six rebounds.

However, an 18-5 run by the Huskies gave Bloomsburg its first double digit lead of the game, 28-17 with 6:43 remaining in the first half.

The Huskies scored 16 of their 36 first half points in the paint en route to an eight-point halftime lead and held a 32-8 edge in points in the paint in the game. They also scored 26 points off of 19 Stevenson turnovers, including 17 in the second half.

The 19 turnovers were one short of being a season-low for the Mustangs.

Stevenson returns to action on Saturday when it faces Austin College in Austin, Texas. Game time is at 4:00 p.m., Eastern.
