STEVENSON, Md. - With three wins in a home quad
match over John Jay, Rowan and Penn State-Berks on Saturday at
Student Union Gymnasium, the Stevenson University women's
volleyball team reached its team goal of a 30-win season, smashing
the previous school record of 21.
The Mustangs (30-6) finished the regular season with nine
consecutive wins, all by a score of 3-0, as they beat John Jay
25-4, 25-10, 25-12, Rowan 25-21, 25-22, 25-13 and Penn State-Berks
25-12, 25-17, 25-15.
Of Stevenson's 30 wins, 23 have come by a 3-0 margin.
Sophomore Dani Katsampis (New Windsor/Francis Scott
Key) totaled 26 kills, including a season-high 14
versus Penn State-Berks, while posting a .345 hitting
percentage.
Senior Alana Eller (Ellicott City/Centennial)
added 21 kills to go along with 24 digs while sophomore
Alex Mercer (Eldersburg/Liberty) also had 21 kills
and 12 total blocks, six of which were solo.
Mercer and Katsampis each had a team-high seven kills versus
John Jay with Mercer adding five total blocks. Junior Danielle
Helwig (Ellicott City/Howard) totaled four kills, six service aces
and eight digs.
Senior Shelly May (Bel Air/Fallston), who
finished the day with 17 kills over the three matches, had eight
against Rowan and junior Brittany Umetin (Havre de
Grace/Mt. Zion), who had 87 assists, six kills and 25
digs, had 34 assists and 15 digs.
Meanwhile, Eller just missed her sixth double double against the
Profs with nine kills and 10 digs.
Other leaders included freshman Jen Glock
(Westminster/Westminster) finished the day with 12 kills
and eight total blocks while freshman Amy Rudolph (North
East/Rising Sun) totaled three kills, 24 assists
and 13 digs.
Stevenson will look for a conference championship starting on
Tuesday when it welcomes York (Pa.) to Student Union Gymnasium for
a CAC Volleyball Championship quarterfinal match beginning at 7:00
p.m.
