Box score

DOVER, Del. - A year after totaling a school record 21 wins and earning the No. 6 seed in the CAC Volleyball Championship, the Stevenson University women's volleyball team posted its 26th victory of the season to earn the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament with a 3-0 victory at Wesley Tuesday night.

The Mustangs (26-6, 5-3 CAC), winners of four-straight matches, posted a 25-18, 25-14, 26-24 victory and will host sixth-seeded York (Pa.) in the opening round of the conference tournament on Tuesday, November 4. The winner of that match advances to the semifinals at No. 2 seed St. Mary's (Md.) on Thursday, November 6.

Sophomore Alex Mercer (Elderbsurg/Liberty) led Stevenson with nine kills and five blocks assists while sophomore Dani Katsampis (New Windsor/Francis Scott Key) also added nine kills.

The two led five Mustangs that had at least five kills as senior Alana Eller (Ellicott City/Centennial) had six and senior Shelly May (Bel Air/Fallston) and freshman Alexa Carney (Towson/Towson) each had five.

Junior Brittany Umetin (Havre de Grace/Mt. Zion) totaled 16 assists and four block assists while freshman Amy Rudolph (North East/Rising Sun) had 12 assists in the third set.

In the other bracket of the CAC Volleyball Championship, Gallaudet and Mary Washington will be the fourth and fifth seeds with the order of finish to be determined on Wednesday when Mary Washington hosts Hood and Gallaudet hosts Salisbury.

Mary Washington will be the No. 4 seed and host the Bison in the quarterfinals if the Eagles beat Hood or Gallaudet loses to Salisbury. If the Bison win and the Eagles lose, Gallaudet will be the fourth seed and host the quarterfinal contest next Tuesday.

The winner of the Gallaudet-Mary Washington game will travel to top-seed and No. 21-ranked Salisbury in the semifinals.

The CAC championship will be played on Saturday, November 8 at the home site of the highest remaining seed.
