TOWSON, Md. - Megan Smith had 24 kills and
Kasey Quinn totaled 25 digs to lead Goucher to a 22-25, 25-21,
25-22, 23-25, 15-4 victory over the Stevenson University women's
volleyball team Tuesay night at the Sports & Recreation Center.
For the second-straight match, errors hurt the Mustangs (22-6)
who totaled 29 attack errors, nine service errors and eight ball
handling errors.
The loss was the fourth in the last six matches for Stevenson
who has averaged over 26 errors in its six losses this season
compared to only 15 in its 22 wins.
Earlier this season, the Mustangs handed Goucher a 3-1 loss at
home on September 13.
Six players had at least one attack error against the
Gophers (15-14), four of which had at least five. Five had at least
one service error and four had at least one ball handling error.
After four tightly contested sets in which Stevenson won the
first before battling back to tie the game at 2-2, Goucher assumed
control in the fifth set, jumping out to a 7-0 lead en route to the
15-4 game-clinching victory.
The win allowed the Gophers to finish undefeated at home this
season, posting a 5-0 record. It also extended their home
winning streak against non-conference opponents to 12.
Mustang senior Alana Eller (Ellicott
City/Centennial) led the team with eight kills while
sophomore Dani Katsampis (New Windsor/Francis Scott
Key) and freshman Paige Norvell (Newark, Del./St.
Elizabeth) each had seven.
Eller also totaled a season-high 23 digs to lead three
players in double figures as junior Brittany Umetin (Havre
de Grace/Mt. Zion) added 13 and freshman Amy
Rudolph (Northeast/Rising Sun) had 11.
Umetin also had 15 assists with Rudolph contributing nine.
Claire Sauvage-Mar had 45 assists and 18 digs for Goucher who
totaled 52 kills and 102 digs as a team.
Stevenson returns to action this Saturday, hosting a quad match
with Philadelphia Biblical, Ursinus and Albright.
