STEVENSON, Md. - Led by a season-high 15 kills
from senior Alana Eller (Ellicott
City/Centennial), the Stevenson University women's
volleyball team set a new school record for wins in a season with
22 as the Mustangs defeated Marymount (Va.) on Tuesday at Student
Union Gymnasium.
The 25-19, 25-16, 27-25 victory also gave Stevenson (22-4, 4-2,
CAC) its fourth conference win of the season, eclipsing the team's
mark of three set a year ago in its first season in the CAC.
In her first game back as an outside hitter since September 16,
Eller also added 12 digs for her third double double of the season.
She missed six matches from September 20-25 with an ankle
injury and in six matches prior to Tuesday night, had totaled 10
kills and 77 digs while serving as the team's libero.
Eller was one of four players being honored on Senior Night,
joining Shelly May (Bel Air/Fallston),
Julie Olson (Spofford, N.H./Keene) and
Jessica Smiley (Baltimore/Kenwood).
Junior Brittany Umetin (Havre de Grace/Mt.
Zion) also added a double double with 36 assists and 12
digs to go along with three kills.
Sophomores Alex Mercer (Eldersburg/Liberty) and
Dani Katsampis (New Windsor/Francis Scott Key)
each had nine kills for the Mustangs who totaled 45 as a team, 33
of which came from the trio of Eller, Mercer and Katsampis.
Christina LaVigna led Marymount (6-15, 2-4, CAC) with nine kills
while Chelsea Gates had a team-high of 10 digs.
Stevenson, who is in third place in the CAC, returns to action
on Thursday when it hosts CAC rival St. Mary's (Md.) at 7:00
p.m. The Seahawks are currently tied with Salisbury for first
place, both with identical 5-0 conference records.
