Stevenson, MD.- The Mustangs hosted NEAC rival,
Philadelphia Bible, in the quarterfinals in tonight's
game. The Mustangs gained control of the ball early in the
first half and continued that momentum to defeat PBU
83-68.
The Mustangs took a quick five point lead when Phil
Williams (District Heights, MD/ Bishop McNamara) sunk a
three-pointer to put the Mustangs ahead 7-2 at 17:35. The
Crimson Eagles cut the lead to one at 16:25 when Charles Hajec hit
a layup. Villa went up again at 14:40 when
Williams stole the ball from PBU's Tyler Bull and
Steve Segears sunk the layup to put the Mustangs
ahead 11-6. After that, the Mustangs dominated the glass for
the rest of the first half. Ely Richardson
(Hartford, CT/ Suffield Academy) stole the ball and
Segears made the shot to put the Mustangs
ahead by 14, 29-15, at 8:02. At 5:19 the score became 33-15
when Segears threw the ball up for
Cilk McSweeney (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/ Dillard) to
dunk it in the basket. PBU gained some momentum to cut the
Mustangs' 20-point lead to 10 at the half. The Mustangs led
at the half 37-27.
Villa Julie controlled the glass the second half of the game.
The Mustangs went up 64-45 at 10:04 when Jason
Lambert (Bloomsfield, CT/ Kingswood-Oxford) sunk a
three-pointer with an assist by Greg Woody
(Baltimore, MD/ Mt. St. Joe). The Mustangs went up by as many
as 20 points when Woody made a three-pointer at
7:40. Villa Julie ended the game when
Segears hit a layup with nine seconds left on the
clock.
Top scorer of the game was PBU's Chase Byler with 29
points. Segears was the top scorer for the
Mustangs with 26 points and 10 boards. Woody
had 20 points and four steals and McSweeney added
12 points and had three blocks.
The Mustangs continue in the tournament to play in the Semifinals
at home on Friday at 6pm.
