Towson, Md.-In search of their third win of the season, the
Mustangs faced the Catholic University Cardinals in a
non-conference match-up at Towson University.
The team played hard against the Cardinals (5-4), but struggled
to catch up after the Cardinals went on a 7-0 run early in the
half. At 15:29, starting guard Chaise Lancaster
(Bowie, MD/Northwestern) put the Mustangs on the
board with a three-point basket, but the Cardinals, who shot nearly
50 percent from the field during the half, went on to finish the
period with a 22-point lead at 36-14.
After halftime, the Mustangs returned to the court in hopes of
closing the gap between the two scores and claiming victory over
the Cardinals, but the Cardinals continued to dominate the floor
and the scoreboard. But the Mustangs didn't lose their drive, and
with a three-pointer from Greg Woody
(Baltimore, MD/Mt. St. Joseph) with just less than
five minutes to go, the team was within 12 points of its
opposition.
The Mustangs continued fighting to break down Catholic's
offense, but the Cardinals came out with a victory 75-60, making
Villa Julie's overall record 2-7. Woody led the
Mustangs' scoring with 20 points, followed by
Lancaster with 14. Jeremy Bernard
(Baltimore, MD/Western Tech) led the team in rebounding
with a total of 14.
The Mustangs go on to face Penn State-Berks in their next home
game to open up their annual Legg Mason Winter Classic tournament
on Jan. 5 at 6 p.m.
