Baltimore, Md.-The Mustangs fell 57-40 to the York College
Spartans in their second conference match-up of the season. The
loss brought the team's record to 0-5 (0-2 CAC) and left the
Mustangs still looking for a win.
York went on a 6-0 run in the first minutes of the game, but the
Mustangs' starting point guard Tonia Cristino (Lancaster,
Pa./Hempfield) put an end to the Spartans attack with a
one-point shot from the free throw line. From then on, the Mustangs
fought to keep York's scoring to a minimum.
The team steadily narrowed the Spartan's lead, and was down by
three nearing the end of the period. The teams finished the half
25-20 with York barely maintaining its lead.
As the teams re-entered the court, it was still anyone's game.
But the Mustangs were scoreless for the first five minutes of the
half, and York pushed its lead up to 15 points with 15 minutes
remaining. The Mustangs continued their effort to come up
victorious, but the undefeated Spartans ended the game with the
win, bringing their overall record to 6-0.
Kristen Steiner (Forest Hill,
Md./Fallston) had a double-double game with 13 total
points and 10 boards and Tara Galvin (Lilits, Pa./Manheim
Township) added 11 points to the Mustang total.
The Mustangs hit the road to face their next challenge, Wesley
College, on Dec. 5, at 6:00 pm.
