Mustangs Take Loss in Quarterfinals

Box Score Owings Mills, MD-

The Mustangs ended their season with this afternoon's loss to Mary Washington in the CAC Quarterfinals. The loss of 1-0 brings the overall record for the Mustangs to 5-13, while Mary Washington moves on to the semifinals with a record of 11-8.

The Mustangs and Eagles maintained the first half with no score on either side. One minute into the second half, the Eagles capitalized on a corner to score the game-winning goal by Sarah Pierson assisted by Emma Jones.

Villa Julie took seven shots and earned eight corners to Mary Washington's nine shots and seven corners. Goalkeeper Kara Zimmerman (Odenton, MD/Arundel) tallied four saves.

As Coach Railey said, "Sometimes in a sport like field hockey, you can dominate the entire game and get scored on one weird play that causes you the game.  We had many opportunities today on which we couldn't capitalize.  All in all, I couldn't be prouder of this team and how they played today.  They played as they have been playing together for years and put in a tremendous performance.  Sometimes, it just doesn't go your way."
