St. Mary's City, MD - The Villa Julie Women's Volleyball team
travelled to St. Mary's College to compete in a quad-match. The
Mustangs went 1-2 for the weekend. The Mustangs defeated Lincoln
University for the second straight weekend but lost out against St.
Mary's College and Averett University.
In the first game, the Mustangs competed against conference
opponent St. Mary's College. The game went to four games
with the Seahawks coming out on top 3-1, with line scores of
19-30, 30-27, 27-30, and 14-30. Alex
Mercer (Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) led the Mustangs with
13 kills and 4 block assists. Julie Olson (Spofford,
NH/Keene) put up a strong defensive effort with 26 digs
and tallied 2 serving aces.
Their second match was versus non-conference opponent Averett
University. The Mustangs fell 3-0 with line scores of 30-28, 30-14,
and 30-16. Danielle Katsampis (New Windsor, MD/Francis
Scott Key) and Mercer tallied
7 kills each. Lindsay Stielper (Elkridge,
MD/Howard) completed 24 set assists, while
Olson maintained the defense with 16
digs.
The Mustangs finished the day in style, sweeping Lincoln University
in three games for the second straight weekend. The Mustangs won
30-11, 30-18, and 30-21. Mercer led the way again
with 8 kills, with Jen Schissler (Sykesville,
MD/Liberty) hitting 6 service aces.
The Mustangs return to the court on Tuesday October 16th
when they host conference foe Wesley College at the Stevenson
Campus at 7pm.
